OVERVIEW

The course of Historical Linguistics analyzes the concept of Proto-Indo-European and linguistic reconstruction.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at acquainting the student with reconstruction and critical analysis of textes written in ancient Indo-European Languages (with highlights on Greek, Latin and Vedic).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The student will be able to reconstruct roots, morphemes, suffixes and phrases in Proto-Indo-European.

PREREQUISITES

A good knowledge of Greek and Latin. The textes will be read in the original languages.

TEACHING METHODS

Textes are read and discussed in the class. Students are incouraged to partecipated, translate and comment them.

The class willb be face-to-face plus streaming transmission.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Indo-European Myth of Hell. Indo-European Eschatology.

The student will be able to read the texts which are explained at lesson and to reconstruct the PIE roots and words.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam will be oral. The student is requested to know text, translation and glottological comments which has been explained in the classes and to show a good knoledge of the books by Campanile and Durante.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will be scored 15/30 (class work) plus 15/30 (individual work).
