OVERVIEW

The course of Elements and Sources of Modern History aims to provide the first-year student with an overview of the themes and problems related to the centuries of the ancien régime (XVI-XVIII), as well as a presentation of the working method of the historian and the developments in historiography since the progressive professionalization of the discipline.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to introduce the student to the study of modern history: on the one hand by introducing and outlining in a preparatory way the concepts, themes and problems of the centuries of modernity; on the other hand by providing guidance for the understanding of the work of the historian and for the knowledge of the tools used by him (sources, methodology, historiography).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

There are two objectives that teaching has set itself:

1) to understand the structural aspects of the old regime society, in its various fields and its problems, in order to set up a more secure learning of modern history in the second year of the course at a manual level

2) learn to become familiar with the historian's historian's lexicon and tools of the trade, i.e. primary and secondary sources

PREREQUISITES

TEACHING METHODS

Factual lessons, open to the questions and curiosities of the students, to articulate themes and problems; seminars on sources and historiography, to explain the working methods of the historian and the construction of historiographic knowledge.
