OVERVIEW

The society of the early modern period (XVI-XVIII sec.). In the course will be provided the tools to know the shapes, explain the dynamics and decipher the meanings

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide the student with the basic knowledge for the study of social history, with particular attention to the modern period. First, by introducing concepts, models, themes, interpretative lines, sources and methods of the historical-social approach, with particular attention to the interrelationship between History and social theory. Secondly, by examining some major issues related to the social history of the modern period (social stratification, work, family, language, nutrition, superstition, health, war, knowledge)

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course has two objectives:

1) To understand the structural aspects of social history in its various fields and problems

2) Master the historiographic vocabulary and the tools of analysis and interpretation of the sources

PREREQUISITES

General knowledge of early modern history

Frontal and seminar lessons open to the questions and curiosities of the students

Module II (6 cfu): Social history of the maritime world in the Mediterranean (XVI-XVIII c.).

EXAM DESCRIPTION

One subject at the candidate's choice and at least four other subjects at the teacher's choice

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The objective of the examination is to verify the ability to treat the subject with mastery, appropriate language, explanatory clarity and critical spirit. The knowledge of the themes, the ability to express oneself and the ability to analyse will have equal weight in the calculation of the final score.

The teacher will make available to students the lecture notes of I Module - downloadable in pdf format - in the "Aulaweb". The lecture notes are the Module I's exam program
