AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Analysing knowledge of the history of the Italian language with particular attention to the ancient language, non-standard variations of Italian, literary Italian and issues of style and metrics. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, students should be able to a) recognise the movement dynamics of the Italian language during history, as it maintained, changed and discarded forms (phonetics and morphology), words (lexicon) and constructions (syntax), b) in premodern texts recognise the elements that are obsolete today and their meanings, c) reflect on the plausibility and describability of the notion of ancient Italian.
