CODE 104152 ACADEMIC YEAR 2020/2021 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 1 SCIENZE STORICHE 9917 (LM-84) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR M-GGR/01 TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 2° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW Geography educates you to place yourself in a relational space where each individual path establishes interrelationships with natural, socio-cultural, economic and political systems. In fact, one of the educational values of geography consists in giving the "sense of space", based on the need to structure and extend one's mental maps. Furthermore, through geographical skills, the conscious development of relations with the environment, the territory and societies is facilitated. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The main training objective of the course is to provide the skills necessary to teach Geography in accordance with national directives. The specific aims of the course are therefore: 1) knowledge of the contents necessary for the didactic planning of Geography, with particular reference to their evolution from the historical side; 2) the knowledge of the main methodological tools and the ways in which to choose the most suitable ones in didactic planning; 3) the development of the student's ability to identify the interdisciplinary links of Geography and to implement them in teaching planning. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to transmit a critical knowledge of the main theoretical approaches, methods and tools for the teaching of geography in first and second grade secondary schools. For this purpose, the 2012 National Indications, the National Indications and New 2018 scenarios, and the Ministerial Indications for secondary school will be considered. At the end of the course, students will know: - illustrate the theoretical references relating to the development of geography education, - present and analyze geographic skills and their use in geography education, - analyze and justify the main methods of teaching geography, - identify and motivate the choice and use of teaching tools, - appropriately use the technical language of the discipline. TEACHING METHODS If the teaching of the degree course is held at a distance, this course will take place on the Teams platform, code rm6en37 - Frontal lessons with slide and video projection and discussion, - interactive activities / exercises on some geographic themes starting from a visual / sound approach, - critical analysis of teaching cards, - reading and analysis of graphs, maps, data sources. During the lessons, teachers from first and second grade secondary schools will be expected to present specific didactic projects. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course examines: the development of geographical knowledge and skills also through an excursus of the evolution of geography; and the main aspects concerning the teaching of geography (geographic skills, methods and tools); the Italian ministerial programs of the late twentieth century and the most recent National Indications for the curriculum (2012 and 2018). The main teaching approaches and methods (teaching by skills, direct observation and indirect observation), and the particular teaching tools (cartographic, iconic, linguistic-literary, statistical, digital) for geographic teaching and learning will be analyzed. Examples of content and didactic activities will be presented for the teaching and learning of geography and the main sources (paper and online) in which to find data and teaching materials. ASSESSMENT METHODS The interview will focus on the theoretical parts and on the didactic parts illustrated and discussed in class: - will allow to verify the ability to present and critically evaluate the main methods and tools for teaching / learning geography in secondary school, - will take into account the quality of exposure and the appropriate use of the specialized lexicon, - will evaluate the argumentative and critical reasoning ability on the study carried out, - will take into account the ability to illustrate / propose interdisciplinary links.
