OVERVIEW

Linguistics Module:

This course serves as an introduction to the study of how the Spanish language is used in society, including the study of language variation in general. Particular attention will be paid to how the field of sociolinguistics emerged and its contributions to the larger field of linguistics. In addition, the course will look at the study geographic linguistic variatio). Particular attention will be also given to pragmatics, the study of interactional meaning. 

Practical Module: 160 hours.

TEACHING METHODS

First semester: online classes

Second semester: classroom learning (depending on the evolution of covid-19 pandemic)

The linguistics module is made up of weekly lectures (3 hours a week over 10 weeks in the first semester).

The practical module is made up of weekly classes (8 hours a week over 20 weeks, i.e. 10 weeks per semester).

 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

 

Spanish Language and Translation II is divided into two parts: a one-semester linguistics module ("modulo teorico"), which is held in the first semester, and a two-semester practical module ("modulo pratico" or "esercitazioni" o "lettorato").

Despertar la oralidad: 24 hours (first semester)

Comprensión lectora y producción oral y escrita: 24 hours (second semester)

Traducción español-italiano: 20 hours (first semester)

Traducción italiano-español: 20 hours (second semester)

Traducción audiovisual: 20 hours (second semester)

Contextos y procesos de mediación: 12 horas (second semester)

Mediación oral: 40 horas (first and second semester)

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The linguistics module is assessed through an oral exam. Both content and language skills will be evaluated.  There are two sittings in each of the three exam sessions. Students can choose only one sitting per session and can't repeat a failed exam in the same session.

The practical module is assessed through a written paper and an oral exam.

Linguistics Module: Attendance is not obligatory BUT STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

Practical Module: 70% obligatory attendance
