The course is aimed at: revising basic arithmetics contents to be taught; developing didactical competences in mathematics teaching; developing competences in planning, implementing, critically revising teaching sequences and carrying out efficient assessment strategies.
With reference to the aims of the course of Matematica I (first part), the Laboratory of Matematica I aims at deepening mathematical and logic-linguistic knowledge dealt with in that course, as concerns its use in kindergarten and primary school teaching. In order to attain such goal, suitable didactic situations for both school levels will be analyzed. They will be considered in the perspective of developing pupils’ competencies concerning natural and decimal numbers and the use of Italian language to communicate and to argue about such situations. Attention will be paid particularly to didactic situations concerning the use of natural numbers in everyday life.
Laboratory-style lessons (individual work on worksheets + class discussions).
The concept of number; numbers and digits; number represenations; rational numbers.
The aforementioned contents will be treated in reference to current National Guidelines and to the related teaching and learning problems, with a focus on linguistic and representation aspects.
Worksheets and reading materials will be provided during the course. At the end of the course a revised version of the notes of the lessons will be provided.
