The workshop focuses on specific activities preparing for the FCE (First Certificate in English). It will help students develop their knowledge of the English language in terms of grammar, speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will also improve their tourism vocabulary. They will also develop their soft skills through practice to be done in groups during the lessons combined with presentations done in groups about touristic locations to promote and 'sell' to the rest of the participants.
The course of English Language for Tourism is supported and integrated by a 2-credit laboratory. This is aimed at providing the students with further tools to achieve a level of proficiency in the English language corresponding at least to B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, emphasising those lexical structures that belong to the sphere of tourism and territory.
The English Laboratory will help the students develop language compentences with a view to reach the B2 level, through practice in terms of grammar, speaking, reading, listening and writing.
B1 level
A combination of traditional lectures (when explaining the most complex grammar structures and how to write reviews) and practical activities carried out in groups.
The course will focus on the study of the most complex grammar structures (present perfect simple and continuous, modals in the present, modals in the past, conditionals, the passive form, the future) combined with pratical exercises (mainly sentence formation and sentence translation from Italian into English). The vocabulary session will focus on tourism, cities, travelling. During the course there will be practice related to reading, listening and review writing at a B2 level. In terms of speaking, the students will have the opportunity to engage in groupwork and prepare and give presentations in order to promote national or international locations from a sustainable tourism perspective. This way, the students will develop their English competences and effective communication skills at an upper intermediate level as well as their team-work abilities.
