OVERVIEW

This course will deal with the stages through which global finance becomes independent from the real economy. The complexity of the financial dynamics worldwide and their geopolitical implications will also be synthetically reconstructed.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course will deal with the stages through which global finance becomes independent from real economy. The complexity of the financial dynamics worldwide and their geopolitical implications will also be synthetically reconstructed. The aim is to provide students with some tools to understand some contemporary phenomena such as globalization, the critical issues of financial capitalism, the new protagonists and the new forms of mercantilism, the reasons of the increase of crisis and their features

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

-students should grasp the theoretical knowledge that allows them to interpret and understand  main financial or geopolitics topics or issues addressed in this course

-students should learn and  understand both the financial and economic terminology and the technicalities to properly communicate with people,  field experts, and scholars

MAIN TOPICS:

-Optimum currency areas

-Capitalism: main theories

-Money: whence it came, where it went. From currency objects to bit-coin

-Monetary systems

-The most important crises: an analysis

-Big players: Sovereign Wealth Funds and multinational firms

-Commodities, utilities, futures

-Mercantilism in the Twenty-first  century. Germany and China

-Neoliberal policies between ideology and reality

-The dust of Empire: the offshore finance

-The public debt issue

- Islamic finance

-Globalization and de-globalization in the multi-polar world

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Attendent students:

- open questions about the contents taught in class and text ad material uploaded on the AW

-team working

Non attendent students

-open  questions about contents taugh tin class and text and material uploaded on the AW

Resit: in the summer and winter exam set students who will have  failed their exam won't be allowed to take the following exam  in the same term

Students can withdraw from the exam within 30 minutes from the beginning of the test

Any changes will be communicate by AW
