OVERVIEW

The course aims to provide students with the tools to deepen the skills acquired during the three-year degree. The ability to argue and the autonomy of judgment will be stimulated through the presentation of strategies aimed at perfecting written and oral production in a foreign language. Tools will also be provided to tackle autonomous research work in preparation of the thesis.

El objetivo del curso es profundizar el estudio de la lengua española en su dimensión morfosintáctica y léxica a través de la lectura y el análisis de textos de actualidad política e internacional en una dimensión panhispánica  y estimular la discusión sobre los temas propuestos durante el año.

 

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course offers interactive teaching contents and methodologies that, in addition to reinforcing those acquired in the first cycle, allow the student to develop communication strategies focused on the ability to argue opinions and to tackle independent research and study paths. Thanks to the cooperative learning activities and individual in-depth analysis, the student will be able to intervene on topics related to the language, cultures and institutions of the respective countries by entering the information collected in a broader framework of reflection that lapses the political themes and their repercussions in European and extra-European society. He/she will also be able to use the bibliographic sources of the relevant disciplines appropriately and to possess the suitable tools to manage communication as an expert speaker within his/her professional domain. As far as the learning objectives of the discipline are concerned, at the end of the master’s course the student will be able to produce clear and precise descriptions and expositions of various topics that fall within his/her field of interest, developing and supporting ideas with additional elements and relevant examples. He/she will also be able to write clear and articulated texts on various topics that fall within his/her field of interest, evaluating information and arguments drawn from different sources and summarizing them (Descriptors related to the B2 level of the CEFR). The course offers the possibility of achieving  6 or 12 CFU corresponding to 36 and 72 hours of lessons. The level of linguistic and cultural output varies according to the choice made. For the 36 -hour course only, the language output level corresponds to the B1 + of the CEFR, for the 72 hours course, the language output level corresponds to the B2+ of the CEFR.

PREREQUISITES

Level of knowledge of the language corresponding to the B1 level of the CEFR.Students who do not have the minimum proficiency level can take advantage of the online courses provided by the University Language Centre

TEACHING METHODS

The relatively smaller number of learners makes it possible to organise teaching in a dynamic and interactive way. The attending students will work on the texts as they are inserted on Aulaweb in a cooperative learning mode. At the end of each module there will be an in itinere verification of the proposed contents and the linguistic level corresponding to the number of credits. Students who are not attending will prepare the contents indicated in the bibliography. Reading and linguistic support exercises are foreseen, the former for students attending and the latter for students not attending.  Both attending and non-attending students must register on the course page of the Aulaweb platform, which is the privileged channel to communicate with students. The course will be held in blended mode. (Teams channel:  a7d55oo)..Students in possession of a language certificate corresponding to level B2+ or higher are exempt from the written test. Students with Spanish as  heritage language are are exempt from the written test after a language assessment interview with the teacher. 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The construction of identity in Spain and Latin Americ.a We will analyze events and texts focused on the most significant moments of Spanish and American culture, calibrating the student's commitment according to the credits to be acquired. Also in consideration of the allocation of credits from previous academic years, the course will be divided into four parts corresponding respectively to 4 cfu (24 hours); 6 cfu (36 hours); 8 cfu (48 hours) and 12 cfu (72 hours).

The attending students will follow the lessons of the teacher and the reader with materials prepared ad hoc. Reference text for attending and non-attending students:Aragonés Palencia, GRAMATICA DE USO DEL ESPANOL - Teoria y Practica con Solucionario - Nivel C1-C2, Hoepli.

The indications for the oral exam reserved and bibliography for attending and non attending students will be indicated at the beginning of the course.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Both a written and an oral exam are scheduled. The first is preparatory with respect to the second. For attending students, at the end of each module corresponding to their respective credits, a partial linguistic assessment will be carried out (four in total at the end of the 24, 36, 48, 72 hours of lessons). The student who will accept the corresponding evaluation will be able to access the oral exam or repeat the written test in the traditional way before the oral assessment.
Non-attending students will have to take the written exam in the exam sessions before presenting themselves to the oral exam.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The grading system is based on a 30-point scale that can be divided into failing (0 to 15) and passing (18 to 30 cum laude). During the oral examination, in addition to the linguistic mastery, the student will  have to show the ability to critically read the context related to the specific field of the foreign languages they study and to compare it with the other disciplines of the master’s course as well as the use of specialized discourse.

FURTHER INFORMATION

The teacher actively uses the Aulaweb platform both for the advertising of disciplinary content and for communications to students. We strongly recommend enrolment at the beginning of the academic year. During the first semester in which lessons will be held at a distance, it is essential that students communicate with the teacher through the Teams and Aulaweb platforms and e-mail.
