OVERVIEW

From “classical” iconological analysis to recent developments and new perspectives of the discipline. Definition of tools of enquiry and their application to case studies chosen in the context of modern era artistic production. 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to clarify the characteristics of iconographic and iconological analysis of works of art, outline a profile of the historical development of the relative methodologies of enquiry and analyse specific themes in both religious and profane contexts. This includes a module dedicated to assessing iconographic programmes prepared for churches and convent structures in the area. 

TEACHING METHODS

Classes will be taught in-person, but students will have the option of taking them remotely (Teams channel, code n2hmpxf).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Oral exam to assess learning of general concepts and specific contents tied to the themes of choice analysed by students, as well as students’ acquisition of methodological tools necessary for the iconological analysis of images.
