AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Introduce the fundamental principles of the history of medicine.

Define the methodological process necessary for the approach to the study of the historical discipline in the medical and dental field. 

Illustrate the historical profiles in their evolution in the health context with particular reference to some significant periods.

Analyze the historical path of the dentist profession. 

Describe the important role that some medical personalities in the field of odontostomatology have played in history.

TEACHING METHODS

In the event of a health emergency that prevents frontal lessons, the  lessons will be carried out remotely using the Office365-Teams platform in synchronous or asynchronous mode.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

General part

Definition, role, origin and evolution of medicine over the centuries; history of the basic disciplines of medicine. The medicine of Ancient Greece. Hippocratic and post-Hippocratic medicine. Roman medicine. Medieval medicine.

Special part

Historical evolution of the dentist figure. History of the organization of the profession and regulatory profiles. General features on personalities of particular interest in the medical-dental field and / or significant discoveries for medicine / dentistry throughout history.
