AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the module, the Student shall have correctly understood the basic concepts of low frequency Electromagnetic Theory, shall be able to correctly classify the different types of encountered problems, and to correctly formulate the solution, arriving, when possible, to determine their analytical solution. TEACHING METHODS Theory lectures and related exercises in the second semester (6 credits). SYLLABUS/CONTENT The equations of Electromagnetic Field in absence of relative motion among material media: Maxwell’s Equations in integral form. Constitutive equations of materials. Energy stored in the Electromagnetic Field. Static Electric Field: its evaluation methods. Energy and Forces. Principle of Virtual Work. Definition of resistance and capacity. Static Magnetic Field: its evaluation methods. Energy and Forces. Principle of Virtual Work. Magnetic materials: diamagnetic, paramagnetic and ferromagnetic. Magnetic Circuits. ASSESSMENT METHODS The examination of Electric and Magnetic Fields is based on an oral discussion, lasting about 30 minutes, normally about the solution of practical problems, and optional questions about the related theory. The final marking of Elettrotecnica is the average of the marks (rounded to the higher integer figure) of its modules (Electric Circuit and Electric and Magnetic Fields). The partial examinations must be passed in the following order: at first Electric Circuit, and afterwards Electric and Magnetic Fields.
