OVERVIEW

First aid is the help provided by unqualified personnel in the event of an emergency / urgency to victims of trauma or illnesses who have the opportunity to provide assistance. In some cases it represents the only possibility of survival as in the case of cardiac arrest or in any case a way to limit the damage and allow a more effective subsequent intervention by qualified personnel.

First aid should be taught to all civil society but in particular the culture of First Aid by its nature should be part of the baggage of those who teach in the school or operate in general in public Service or small Comunity.  They can therefore in turn be messengers of this culture of the emergency.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Considered among the training  internship activities, the didactic module confers knowledge related to the methods of treatment of emergencies that may occur both during motor and sports activities and and more generally in everyday life

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

having understood the difference between First Aid and First Aid and which regulations are at the basis, the student understands in what circumstances he must act, recognizing any dangers for himself, for the victim and for bystanders if present.

Once the problems have been identified, the student will be able to correctly transmit the data relating to the patient and his clinical conditions to the 112 operations center. In the meantime he will implement those maneuvers aimed at stabilizing the patient, creating the conditions for the intervention of qualified personnel . The student must recognize and provide first aid according to current guidelines or according to good clinical practice in case of:

  • In the event of a loss of consciousness, after analyzing the potential causes if this is due to cardiac arrest and, if necessary, undertake cardio-respiratory resuscitation maneuvers and possibly, if necessary and available, know how to use a defibrillator. After recovery of consciousness and always if conscious and breathing, the student will be able to perform a maneuver called lateral safety position.
  • heat injury knowing the difference between sunstroke and heat stroke.
  • In the event of a burn, the student must know how to recognize the extent of the lesions according to Wallace's rule and implementing maneuvers to reduce complications. Moreover, he must know to convey the severity of burns to the medical center
  • Knowing how to recognize a foreign body asphyxia and treat the conscious and unconscious patient with appropriate maneuvers
  • know how to recognize the nature of the bleeding in progress and prepare, based on resources, a manual tamponade.
  • In case of cranio-encephalic trauma, recognize the gravity and implement stabilization maneuvers bearing in mind the potential dangerous maneuvers in the event of a fracture of the spine.
  • In case of osteoarticular trauma, the student knowing the difference between the various types of lesions will be able to treat the lesion based on the severity and, in any case, will be able to perform an elastic bandage to allow stabilization.
  • In case of medical emergencies (allergic reactions; asthmatic crisis; convulsive crisis) the student must be able to recognize each of these different clinical pictures and, based on the knowledge provided, implement those maneuvers aimed at reducing the risk of injury for the patient or in case of asthma and anaphylactic reactions favor the use of drugs known to the patient or if available and in case of imminent danger, know the basic drugs for the treatment of the crisis.
  • the student must know the existence, what the content and how to manage a first aid kit.

the student must have knowledge of hygiene and prevention of infectious diseases with particular regard to: hand washing; disinfection; dressing of simple wounds

The student must know how to perform the necessary procedures to:

  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Perform the patient safety position
  • Perform the Heimlich maneuver
  • Knowing how to control external bleeding.
  • Bandage and immobilize a limb
