In addition students will be able to: a) select the most appropiate biological disciplines depending on the forensic scenario; b) identify the main insects associated with a body decomposition; c) estimate, critically the PMI using the entomological method; d) Identify the most important entomological taxa associated with food; e) put in the correct context the utility of DNA analysis. TEACHING METHODS The module teaching is based on lectures and work group. Attendance to lectures and practical group activities is not mandatory, but strongly recommended. Teaching modalities and methods (lectures, practical, etc) will be comunicated on the course website depending on the trend of the COVID-19 pandemic emergency. . For this reason, students are invited to check regularly the module and the course website to be updated on any teaching variation. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The module will present the foloowing topics: • the forensic process (crime scene, evidence, etc); • the forensic sciences; • insects of forensic interest; • waves of colonization and the PMI estimation; • crime against the wildlife and the environment; • Role of DNA in crime investigation and other legal issues. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Al the teaching material wil be available on the module website (Aulaweb). Books are available in the library or can be visioned in the lecturers' office. The follwoing books are suggested: -Tilstone, W.J.; Hastrup, M.L.; Hald, C. 2012 Fisher’s Techniques of Crime Scene Investigation, First International Edition. CRC Press. -Gunn A. Class schedule MOLECULES, HUMANS AND ANIMALS EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION Student have to sit to two assesments, one per each CFU. ASSESSMENT METHODS Details about the assesments and the evaluation process will be explained by the lectureres during the teaching period. The first assesment will be a written report in order to test the ability of the student to apply the acquired knowledge in the contest of human and animal forensic biology and to a realistic scenario. The other assesment will be an oral examination that will allow the lecturer to verify the ability of the students to present in a clear, critical and professional way the theoretical components of the different topics of the module Exam schedule Data appello Orario Luogo Degree type Note 26/01/2022 10:00 GENOVA Compitino 26/01/2022 10:00 GENOVA Esame su appuntamento 26/01/2022 10:00 GENOVA Scritto 26/01/2022 10:00 GENOVA Compitino 26/01/2022 10:00 GENOVA Esame su appuntamento 26/01/2022 10:00 GENOVA Scritto 09/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Compitino 09/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Esame su appuntamento 09/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Scritto 09/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Compitino 09/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Esame su appuntamento 09/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Scritto 18/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Compitino 18/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Scritto 18/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Esame su appuntamento 18/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Compitino 18/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Scritto 18/02/2022 10:00 GENOVA Esame su appuntamento 08/06/2022 12:00 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 15/06/2022 12:00 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 22/06/2022 12:00 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 13/07/2022 12:00 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 15/09/2022 10:00 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 22/09/2022 12:00 GENOVA Scritto + Orale 22/09/2022 12:00 GENOVA Scritto + Orale FURTHER INFORMATION Attendance to the lectures and other activities is stronly suggested.
