This course will teach students to read projects as a form of indirect learning exercise. Students will learn to break down an object according to various concepts (formal, material etc.) and relate it to anthropomorphic and anthropological rules.
The aim of this course is to provide students with the tools to understand the main concepts of project design as a whole, with a focus on the nautical field, and to allow them to experience the design process. The course will focus on teaching the process elements, from needs assessment to design and production. Theoretical and practical exercises, with collective brainstorming sessions, will complete and fine-tune the creative process. Students will be expected to gain a deep understanding of product design and the design process. Specifically, students will be guided to break down and analyze an object and its various components; they will understand and evaluate their relations, shapes and composition. Students will be expected to know the various types, functional groups and emerging parts of the project; they will also be expected to critically analyze and place the product within a specific historical context. By the end of this course, students will have refined their analytical and critical skills while evaluating objects, in order to move on to the next design actions.
