The Transport Safety Law course is divided into two modules:
- the EU law and transport policy module, held by Prof. Laura Carpaneto, aims at providing the students with the essential research and analysis tools to understand what the EU is, and what the EU has done, does and can do in the transport sector. In this perspective the module will focus on the EU's action in transport matters.
- the Safety and Maritime Transport Law module, held by Prof. Pierangelo Celle, after introducing the necessary legal concepts relating to jurisdiction in maritime spaces and the exercise of the powers of States over ships, examines the safety at sea regime, as regulated by the relevant international instruments (Unclos, Solas and other IMO Conventions) and by the EU related controls. Finally, marine casualties safety investigations and relationships between safety at sea and the international liability regime for maritime accidents are illustrated.
