Training Objectives.

The Course aims to train experts with concrete skills to estimate the actual and potential effects of pollution, in different environmental matrices, on health and their distribution within the population, in the context of current environmental and health impact assessment procedures and environmental certification systems. These professionals, possessing knowledge also related to European environmental certification systems, will have to, from the principles and fundamentals acquired, translate the results of toxicological and epidemiological research into practical indications for the benefit of environmental policies in general and health policies in particular, in order to achieve careful and effective preventive protection of the health of the community. The Course represents an opportunity to acquire and/or consolidate transversal skills essential for working in the environmental and health sectors.

Admission requirements

Can enroll Graduates with bachelor's or master's degrees in the areas of Medicine, Biology, Natural Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, Prevention Techniques in the Environment and Workplaces, but also graduates with professional experience in related fields the field of reference.

The Course is sponsored by the Department of Experimental Medicine of the University of Genoa - DIMES, in collaboration with the Ticass Consortium - Innovative Technologies for Environmental Control and Sustainable Development.

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

The expert in HIA and EIA, possessing knowledge related also to European environmental certification systems, will be able, from the principles and fundamentals acquired, to translate the results of toxicological and epidemiological research into practical guidance for the benefit of environmental policies in general and health policies in particular, in order to achieve careful and effective preventive protection of community health.

 

EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION

The Course is conducted in online streaming mode and consists of 250 hours of which:

  • 153 hours of face-to-face lectures
  • 36 hours of application case studies
  • 50 hours of project work
  • 11 hours for module tests and presentation of project work results

Attendance is spread over 6/8 weeks divided into two afternoon meetings starting at 2 p.m. (Wednesday and Thursday)

  • Analysis of information sources in environmental and health matters, Principles of statistics.

▶️Modulo II - Tools and Methods for Environmental Impact Assessment Strategic Environmental Assessment and Environmental Risk Assessment

  • SEA: regulatory framework, principles and procedural aspects, integration aspects with HIA
  • Practical exercise: application example of SEA on a plan
  • IA: regulatory framework, principles and procedural aspects, aspects of integration with HIA
  • Application examples
  • Participation and public phase for SEA and EIA - focus on communicating health and hygiene implications
  • Environmental risk assessment and management in planning and

  • Waste Planning. Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Regional Waste Plan and health impacts analyzed. Emergence of health aspects in consultation with the public. Examples of HIA integration in regional administrative EIA proceedings on waste management facilities. Waste management in COVID-19 era. FOCUS on aspects related to odorous emissions from waste

  • Evaluation and management of environmental risks from toxic substances - REACH regulation

Il desiderio di approfondire alcuni degli argomenti affrontati durante il mio percorso di studi mi ha portato a iscrivermi a questo master. Fin da subito ho apprezzato l’eterogeneità delle materie trattate.
