To learn how to use computers and some application programs through theoretical lessons and hands-on exercises. In particular, basic notions about the usage of computers in scientific applications (hardware, software, information, representation, text editors, spreadsheets, and presentations) are provided in this course.
The course aims to introduce the students to the use of the LibreOffice suite (in particular the Calc spreadsheet), aiming to make them capable of:
To use spreadsheets properly, the student should have basic mathematical, reasoning, and analytical skills, typically covered by mathematics courses in the first year.
Teaching takes place over 10-12 weeks, including either 2 hours of classroom lessons or guided laboratory.
During the semester there will be two assessments during class time (with booking and submission on AulaWeb) and home exercises (working in a group).
