AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquisition of the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to diagnose and treat problems related to temporomandibular joint pathologies and cranio-cervical-facial pain.

TEACHING METHODS

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the School/Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning outcomes.

- Anatomy of the splanchnocranium

- Pathophysiology of pain

- Reflex and referred pain

- Muscle physiology

- Trigger points and pain projection areas

- Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and mandibular function

- The parafunctions

- Classification of craniomandibular dysfunctions

- The clinical examination in gnathology

- The clinical differential diagnosis in orofacial pain

- Instrumental exams in gnathology

- Electromyography

- Principles of therapy

- Physical therapy

- Occlusal therapy

- Drug therapy
