General and Applied Hygiene, in a holistic view of man, is the science that intends to make longer life, healthier and more beautiful. To do so in an individual and collective vision is concerned on the one hand to prevent disease and on the other to maximize the good health state.
Knowing and applying the epidemiological methodology to analyze, understand, evaluate health problems and assistance for general and specific dental interest at both the individual and the community. Identify and analyze the factors that influence health. Know and apply the regulations for environmental protection and safety of workers in dentistry.
The student at the end of the course you will:
1. Know how it is organized: the NHS, private healthcare and dental care in Italy;
2. Know the fundamental mode of epidemiological study and learn to interpret the results;
3. Know the major infectious diseases and be able to prevent them with specific reference to the dental practice.

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the School/Department before class begins, in order to arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning outcomes.

General epidemiology of infectious diseases. Epidemiology and prophylaxis of: tetanus, smallpox, diphtheria, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, influenza, pneumococcal diseases, meningococcal disease, AIDS, viral hepatitis, polio. Overview of the main diarreal diseases .
