The aim of the course is to give to the student basic skills on the microstructural and mechanical properties of materials.
The student will acquire the ability to identify which materials are suitable in a given application and which treatments improve their characteristics and extend their life time.
Frontal teaching lessons: 10 hours
Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.
Materials classification: metals, ceramics, polymers and composites
Microstructural characterization of the metals, metal alloys
Microstrructural characterization of the ceramics and forming techniques
Macrostructural characterization of the polymers, polymerization process and plastic forming process
Mechanicals properties of the materials and methods to investigation
