OVERVIEW

The use of appropriate software tools cannot be any more distinguished from the theoretical aspects of Control a Systems Theory. For this reason, the course aims to review in such a  way the contents of the courses of Systems Theory, Automatic Control and Discrete Event Systems.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to teach the students the use of software tools to solve efficiently the problems faced in the previous theoretical courses in Control and Systems Theory

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student will be able to represent through the software tools made available a linear or nonlinear, continuous-time and/or discrete-time and/or discrete-event dynamical system. After its representation, the use of the tool will allow ‘what if’ analysis and control problem solving.

PREREQUISITES

Systems Theory, Automatic Control, Discrete Event Systems

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lectures with computers and exercises carried out in the classroom. Exercises given to students and subsequent correction.

Working students and students with certified DSA, disability or other special educational needs are advised to contact the lecturer at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination arrangements that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning patterns.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

1) Description of  analysis and simulation tools

2) Language instructions

3) Graphic block interface

4) Building models

5) 'what if' analysis

6) Packages description

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

Online help of the used tools.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Solving, on a Computer, typical problems in Automatic Controls exploiting the software tools made available by the University. In the case of students with DSA, specific aids will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and with the collaboration of the school's delegate for inclusion and disabilities.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

A dynamic system will be proposed to be analyzed and controlled using the software tool. The ability to set up the problem and the understanding of the used tool will be assessed through the solution of "what-if" problems.
