AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching of Pharmacology aims to make the student acquire the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic fundamentals that characterize the pharmacological profile and mechanism of action of drugs. The principles that constitute the rational basis of drug therapy in relation to various neuropsychiatric disorders in pediatric age will also be explained, and possess the necessary tools to evaluate pharmacological approaches, drug activity and side effects

TEACHING METHODS

Teaching of pharmacology will be performed by frontal lessons.

Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disorders (SLDs), disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the lecturer and the School/Departmental Disability Liaison at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching modalities that, while respecting the teaching objectives, considering individual learning patterns.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

General Pharmacology

 Fundamentals of pharmacokinetics

 Fundamentals of pharmacodynamics

 Neuropharmacology

 Neurotransmission: the main receptors of the Autonomic and Central Nervous System

 Drugs affecting the action of the Autonomic Nervous System

 Neurobiological and therapeutic bases of the following classes of drugs:

 Antidepressants

 Antiepileptics

 Toxicology and pharmacological treatment of addictions (alcoholism, drug addiction)

All the slides shown during the frontal lessons will be made available to the students on the Aulaweb site.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The end-of-course examination aims to assess the achievement of the teaching objectives of Pharmacology and to integrate it with the other teachings of the C.I.

 

Oral examination.

The teacher verifies the achievement of the learning objectives by asking questions pertaining to the program carried out during class hours.

 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Verification of learning takes place through the final exam only, which is designed to verify the student's actual acquisition of the expected learning outcomes.

Contributing to the final grade expressed in thirtieths are:

- Ability to deal cross-culturally and critically with the required topics;

- Correctness, clarity, synthesis and fluency of exposition;

- Mastery of the subject matter;

- Adoption of appropriate terminology.
