OVERVIEW

The course on principles of statics and geometry of floats provides basic knowledge starting from hull shapes and hydrostatic calculations up to the study of the stability of a body immersed in a fluid.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of the elements necessary for the representation and characterization of the geometry of the hull and the propeller; to perform calculations relating to the geometry of the hulls, the equilibrium and stability of a floating body.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The expected results of the module are an advanced understanding of the fundamentals of ship statics and the geometry of floating bodies and the development of the ability to set up a conscious study of the geometric characteristics of vessels.

PREREQUISITES

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The way in which the student's learning is assessed consists of a profit exam carried out by means of an oral test.
For current students, three exam sessions are planned in the summer session (June, July and September) and two exam sessions in the winter session (January and February).
The test consists of: n.4 questions in which the candidate must illustrate the proposed topics, and how these are applied to solve the classic problems of the Geometry of Floats and the Statics of the Ship

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The student's evaluation is carried out during the oral exam and is based on the ability to describe autonomously, with coherence and propriety of terms the topics and demonstrations presented in class
The attribution of the grade will take into account:
Knowledge of the topics covered
Understanding of the related physical phenomena
Ability to present
Ability to solve problems

FURTHER INFORMATION

Students with disabilities or DSA can request compensatory/dispensatory measures for the exam.
