CODE 118828 ACADEMIC YEAR 2025/2026 CREDITS 1 cfu anno 1 DESIGN DEL PRODOTTO NAUTICO 11940 (L-4 R) - LA SPEZIA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/10 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION LA SPEZIA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: DESIGN WORKSHOP 1 AND NAUTICAL TECHNIQUE OVERVIEW The course Theory of Materials Applied to Nautical Design provides a critical overview of the main types of materials applicable in the field of design, with particular attention to their properties, production processes, and design and aesthetic implications. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of the main material families relevant to design, and to introduce the use of databases for selecting material information available to designers. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The main objective of the course is to provide students with a broad and structured overview of the main categories of materials used in the fields of design and architecture, highlighting their characteristics, application potential, and limitations. The course is intended to support students in developing a critical approach to material selection, fostering an understanding of the principles governing their use in design contexts. By the end of the course, students will be able to make informed material choices based on functional, aesthetic, and environmental project requirements, and to apply an effective methodology for their practical implementation. PREREQUISITES nobody TEACHING METHODS The course is structured into monographic modules, each dedicated to specific aspects of materials in design. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course provides basic knowledge of materials and their use, with the aim of promoting informed and conscious application in the field of industrial design. In particular, the program covers the following topics: - principles of material classification for design; - introduction to the mechanical, physical-chemical, and technological properties of materials; - plastic materials and main forming technologies; - non-ferrous metals: aluminum, copper, and related alloys; - glass and its processing techniques; - composite materials: principles and classification; - recycled and recyclable materials (e.g., bioplastics); - technologically advanced materials (e.g., smart materials, graphene). RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Teaching materials and bibliography will be made available on the Microsoft Teams platform and in the dedicated section on Aulaweb. TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD SALVATORE POLVERINO Ricevimento: The professor receives students by appointment, to be arranged by sending an e-mail to salvatore.polverino@unige.it. LESSONS LESSONS START The course lessons are held as indicated in the academic calendar. Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION oral ASSESSMENT METHODS The assessment aims to evaluate the understanding and acquisition of the skills required for the proper selection of materials presented within the design project. FURTHER INFORMATION Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD) may request compensatory and/or dispensatory measures for the exam.
