It was established under the Habitat Directive (92/43/EEC) and the Birds Directive (2009/147/EC) with the aim of protecting natural habitats and species of animals and plants considered of community interest. The creation and management of these sites represent a joint commitment between the European Union, Member States, and local communities to ensure a future for biodiversity in harmony with human use of the landscape. The course provides students with the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to understand and address the challenges related to the conservation of the Natura 2000 ecological network. The curriculum covers the legal foundations, planning and monitoring , and sustainable land management tools. Through case studies, practical exercises, and field activities, students will gain skills useful for working in public agencies, environmental organizations, or ecological consulting AIMS AND CONTENT PREREQUISITES Principles of Conservation Biology (biodiversity, protected areas, IUCN, threat to habitat and species) Regulations, directives and laws (international and national) on the protection of biodiversity, natural habitats and wildlife TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD SEBASTIANO SALVIDIO Ricevimento: Teacher available on request. EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION Student groups will be assigned a written Appropriate Assessment (AA) for a site within the Natura 2000 network, in accordance with Article 6 of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC. The written report will also be presented in class through an oral presentation lasting approximately 10 to 15 minutes. ASSESSMENT METHODS The written Appropriate Assessment and the oral presentations by the students' team will be assessed fot their consistency to the site regulations.
