OVERVIEW

Internal medicine offers a systematic understanding of how different internal medicine pathologies can influence a patient's response to CEC and vice versa.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

Know the principles for managing emergency and emergency clinical situations, applying the necessary first aid interventions.

 

TRAINING OBJECTIVES (DETAIL) AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquire the knowledge and know how to implement the maneuvers for the initial treatment of cardiovascular arrest with notions on the semi-automatic external defibrillator.

Knowledge and technical skills of first aid in general medicine

Recognize the most common clinical presentations of major pathological conditions in Internal Medicine

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching consists of 10 hours of training activities, including 10 hours of classroom lectures on all subjects covered by the programme.

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Thoracic pain [(physiopathology, presentation, nosological framing, differential diagnosis and clinical management)]

Gastrointestinal bleeding (pathophysiology, presentation, nosological classification, differential diagnosis and clinical management)

Chronic kidney disease (anatomy and pathophysiology of the kidneys and urinary tract, clinical presentation of major nephrologic syndromes, differential diagnosis and clinical management);

Acute renal  failure (clinical presentation, differential diagnosis and clinical management) 

Gastrointestinal [bleeding]

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The assessment of learning takes place through the final examination only, which aims to ascertain the actual acquisition by the student of the expected learning outcomes.

The student to pass the exam, then report a mark not less than 18/30, must demonstrate that he knows the topics of the examination program

  • Ability to address the topics requested in a cross-disciplinary and critical manner;
  • Correctness, clarity, synthesis and fluidity of presentation;
  • Mastery of the subject;
  •  Adoption of appropriate terminology

The mark of 30/30 with eventual praise will be conferred when the knowledge/skills of the subject are excellent.
