OVERVIEW

The main objective of the course is the development of a critical skill in order to being able to relate the basic studies of psychology through the knowledge of the functioning of the psychological functions of the man.

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Gaining knowledge on the principles behavioural and emotional analysis is based on, in order to develop a capacity of self-evaluation and an experience in the relationship-communication field. Ability to recognize the main behavioural risk factors as cause of social distress and identify the characteristics of different human groups. Gaining communicative and social skills, both for the doctor-patient relationship and for istitutional relationship. Define the theoretical framework of health and illness with particular attention to the psychologic background and the psychosocial component.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

To learn the essential principles of general and social psychology necessary for understanding the principles underlying the analysis of individual behavior, self-assessment capabilities, and the ability to engage in relationships and communication. To provide the conceptual and methodological knowledge that constitutes psychological science, particularly concerning psychic functions. Specifically, the course will cover models of perceptual processes, learning and memory, consciousness and attention, emotions, and motivation. Special attention will be given to the experimental method and its various applications in the examined areas.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures and thematic seminars.
Students with valid certifications for Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), disabilities, or other educational needs are invited to contact the instructor and the disability coordinator of the School/Department at the beginning of the course to arrange any possible educational accommodations, while ensuring the course objectives are respected and individual learning needs are addressed.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The historical context of the key figures who founded psychology as a scientific discipline, including: Fechner, Pavlov, Thorndike, Watson, and Gestalt psychology theorists. The measurement of psychic phenomena. Psychophysics. The anatomy and plasticity of the brain. Auditory and visual perception. Imagination, attention, and consciousness. Conditioning. Memory and forgetting. Verbal and non-verbal communication. Language and language disorders. The origin and evolution of language. Intelligence. Arousal, emotions, and appraisal.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The final assessment will include a self-assessment test at the end of the course and an oral exam. These will assess both the content covered in the lectures and the specific literature provided to the student.
The self-assessment test will consist of closed-ended questions with multiple-choice answers.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The assessment will verify the student’s ability to connect psychological aspects of behavior, emerging from both the lectures and the assigned bibliography at the start of the course.
Students will be required to demonstrate that they have achieved the learning outcomes stated in the Dublin Descriptors by passing a written test.
The oral exam questions will not only focus on verifying content knowledge but will also assess whether the candidate can relate different study topics, referencing lecture content, seminars, and the assigned bibliography.
