The course aims to connect comparative politics with international relations by examining - on the one hand - the influence of domestic actors (parties, leaders, institutions) on foreign and defense policy, and - on the other hand, the processes of democratization and the crisis of liberal democracy
The two modules of the course aim to illustrate the relationship between domestic factors, political regimes and the policy decisions adopted in the international arena. The modules offer a novel perspective that combines comparative politics and international relations in order to understand, on the one hand, foreign policy decisions, and on the other, patterns, causes and consequences of democratization processes as well as the current crisis of liberal democracy.
