These topics are discussed both from a theoretical point of view and with reference to different applicative examples. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Acquire skills to face simple electromagnetic problems in accordance with the syllabus TEACHING METHODS Lectures SYLLABUS/CONTENT Remarks on electromagnetic fields. Maxwell's equations and constitutive equations. Free space radiation (first part): Propagation and attenuation of electromagnetic waves in lossless media. Plane waves. Remarks on electromagnetic radiation generated by e.m. sources. Near field and far field regions. Guided propagation: Uniform trasmission lines. Characteristic impedance, loads, input impedance. Examples of transmission lines used in applications. Basic concepts abour waveguide. Rectangular waveguides. Free space radiation (second part): Effects of the atmosphere. Varios types of links.
