OVERVIEW

The HYDRAULIC AND HYDROLOGICAL RISK course, consisting of the modules "APPLIED HYDROLOGY" and "RIVER AND MARITIME HYDRAULICS", intends to provide the elements necessary to conduct hydrological and hydraulic studies to support the design of works.

The RIVER AND MARITIME HYDRAULICS module provides notions of fluid mechanics and river and maritime hydraulics.

The APPLIED HYDROLOGY module provides criteria and technical guidelines for the verification and evaluation of flow rates and flood hydrograms.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The module of RIVER AND MARITIME HYDRAULICS provides basic notions of fluid mechanics and river and maritime hydraulics. In the first part of the course, the fundamental notions of fluid mechanics will be introduced, deriving the equations of motion and discussing some simple but fundamental solutions. Furthermore, notions of turbulence will be introduced. In the second part of the course free surface motions will be discussed, with particular reference to river and maritime environments.

The module of APPLIED HYDROLOGY aims to provide students with the tools for verifying and evaluating flow rates and flood hydrograms. Detailed hydrological studies or statistical methods for hydrology and numerical modelling applications for hydrology are addressed during the teaching.

TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The examinations of the module “RIVER AND MARITIME HYDRAULICS” and the module “APPLIED HYDROLOGY” consist of an oral examination. The grade recorded for the teaching “HYDRAULIC AND HYDROLOGICAL RISK” is the average of the partial evaluations awarded in the two modules into which the teaching is divided.

Please kindly refer to the consultation of the individual modules for further details about the examination procedures.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The oral examinations in the two modules are intended to verify the understanding of the topics covered and the ability to critically rework the knowledge acquired.

Please kindly refer to the consultation of the individual modules for further details about the assessment methods.
