SYLLABUS/CONTENT Literature and the environment from the 17th century to the present day FIRST PART - Literature and environment from the XVIIIth to the XXth century (I° semestre - 36 ore - Prof.ssa Gaboriaud The course will address the question of the environment, particularly the natural environment, in its literary manifestations. The eighteenth century marked the entry of European culture into a new relationship with the natural elements, which crystallised a new articulation of the concepts of nature and culture. In the 19th century, the industrial revolution, followed by the era of mass consumption in the 20th century, created the conditions for a problematic or anxious relationship with the natural element, which was reflected and amplified in literature. The course will be based on purely literary texts, but also on bimedial works such as the phototext. SECOND PART – Contemporary Ecopoetics (2nd semester – 18 hours – Prof. Rolla): The course includes a theoretical introduction to ecocriticism and ecopoetics, with particular attention to the relationship between literature and the environment, and literature and the Anthropocene in the contemporary era. Attending students will be assigned individual tasks to be completed during the lessons in the second semester. The completion of these activities will be assessed and may contribute up to two additional points to the final exam grade with Prof. Gaboriaud.
