OVERVIEW

This course is offering a deeper insight into the culture of the German speaking countries, starting out from their history, examining the phenomenon of the pluricentricity of their language as well as the creation of national identity and mentality which have characterized traditions and arts of these cultures. 

 

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the students will have acquired an overview on the literatures and language phenomena in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, as well as developed awareness of the linguistic, historical and cultural pluricentricity that characterizes these three German speaking countries.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this course, the students

- will have widened their knowledge on history and culture of the German speaking countries as well as their embodiment in the European context

- will be able to recognize and interpretate outstanding phenomena of German speaking culture within the wider context of an steadily increasing multi-, inter- and transcultural society

- will be capable dealing with German texts in history, literature and arts

- will have received incentives to always keeping themselves informed on political and social ongoing matters and to approach and analyse them with critical thinking

 

PREREQUISITES

C 1

TEACHING METHODS

1. Didactic Unit,  winter semester: 36 hours frontal lecture in German, reading texts in German and vision of multimedia documents

2. Didactic Unit, summer semester: 18 hours frontal lecture in German, reading texts in German and vision of multimedia documents

N.B.: 36 hours + 18 hours = 54 hours (9 Cfu)

Attendance is not obbligatory, but heartily recommended

Students who do not attend the classes have to contact the professor at the beginning of the semester and study the texts marked with *
