AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course introduces the fundamentals of mobile application programming on the Android platform. Specifically, the course covers the main features of the Android operating system and thoroughly explores the methodologies for creating modern and responsive mobile applications on Android. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Expected learning outcomes: acquire the basic principles of the Android operating system and its programming model; understand the structure of an Android application and the role of its main components; apply standard methodologies for mobile application development; develop graphical user interfaces for modern and responsive Android applications; manage local data and application components such as services, notifications, Broadcast Receivers, and Content Providers; understand the integration with external services and support platforms, such as Firebase; know the main security mechanisms of the Android system; design and implement a complete Android application using the Kotlin language. PREREQUISITES - Object Oriented Programming - the Java language - Foundations of Operating Systems and Database TEACHING METHODS Lectures plus individual hands-on during the course. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Android architecture and programming model; structure of an Android application; Android Studio development environment; event-driven programming in Android; development of graphical user interfaces in Android; Activities, Fragments, menus, themes, styles, and Intents; services and multi-thread programming in Android; application data management; local databases and data persistence; services, Broadcast Receivers, and Content Providers; notifications; Integration with the Firebase suite, including Firestore and Notifications.
