AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The teaching unit aims at providing students with an introduction to cognitive sciences, focusing on theories and research methodologies that can be leveraged to observe, measure and evaluate users and their interaction with the machine. The topics will include theories on perception and other relevant cognitive phenomena as well as an introduction to statistics and psychometrics. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: -describe main cognitive sciences theories on perception, memory and attention; -describe the basics of research methodology in psychology; -design a simple experimental investigation on human subjects; -understand scientific articles from the relevant literature. PREREQUISITES The course requires no prior knowledge. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of theoretical knowledge and project activities and is delivered through synchronous lecture and distance learning. Students who hold valid certificates relating to Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD), disabilities or other educational needs are invited to contact the lecturer and the school’s disability liaison officer at the start of the course to agree on any teaching arrangements which, whilst respecting the course objectives, take into account individual learning styles.
