The course provides the fundamental elements for Port Planning and Design taking into account the maritime operations and the land requirements for terminals and inland transport.
The main objective of the course is to provide the fundamental knowledge about port planning and design either for the maritime areas and for the terminals layout. Part of the course will be dedicated to give some insight about the managing and organization of a typical italian commercial harbor.
Within the course the student will learn how to carry out an efficient and detailed planning of maritime and land areas for a commercial harbor through: - detailed reccomandation for safe navigation and operativity for the design of the maritime areas taking into account information about ship characteristics; - optimal terminal layout for different type of goods and different way of loading/unloading procedures; - analysis of harbor operativity depending on different environmental loads (long waves and wind).
The student will get as well an insight, through practical cases, on the management and the operations that are necessary in order to run a modern commercial harbor.
Oral classes and thematic seminars
