EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The assessment consists of a seminar presentation, with a maximum duration of 30 minutes, delivered in a public examination session before the Examination Committee and the students enrolled in the Master’s Degree program.

Four examination sessions are scheduled during the academic year, organized so as not to overlap with other teaching activities. For students carrying out their thesis work abroad, extraordinary sessions may be arranged prior to the graduation session.

The evaluation is carried out by an Examination Committee composed of at least two members appointed by the Master’s Degree program. The thesis supervisor(s), any co-supervisor(s), and the course professor/tutor are not permitted to serve on the committee.

The committee assigns a pass assessment based on the clarity of presentation and the depth of the content. In addition, it assigns a score ranging from 0 to 1 (including fractional values), which contributes to the final graduation grade.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLDs) may request accommodation for the examination. It is necessary to upload the relevant certification on the University website at servizionline.unige.it in the “Students” section. The documentation will be verified by the University Service for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities and SLDs. Subsequently, well in advance (at least 7 days) before the exam date, the appropriate online request form must be submitted.

For further information students with certified disabilities or SLDs registered with the University are invited to contact the professor by e-mail, as well as the disability officer of at the School of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, prof. Sergio di Domizio (sergio.didomizio@unige.it).

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The assessment is aimed at verifying the achievement of the learning outcomes of the class, with particular reference to the ability to:

  • understand, explain, and critically discuss a topic consistent with the learning objectives of the Master’s Degree program;
  • present and argue the selected topic clearly and effectively, using appropriate graphical and electronic supports;
  • respond accurately and comprehensively to the questions posed by the Examination Committee and actively engage in the discussion.

The evaluation considers the level of subject mastery, the effectiveness of oral communication, and the quality of the presentation materials.
