The module POWER PLANTS FOR ENERGY CONVERSION deals with the study of power plants for energy, focusing both on traditional ones, based on gas turbines technology, and innovative ones, based on low-carbon fuels. The module INDUSTRIAL PLANTS FOR ENERGY focuses on the study of industrial plants for the transport and the management of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The purpose of the unit "Power plants for energy conversion" is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge of power plants for energy conversion, both for traditional gas turbines technology, with particular focus on on-design and off-design performance and recent technology advancements, and on innovative solutions related to recent EU 2030 energy policies, such as plants for CO2 capture and storage and plants for H2 and e-fuels (ammonia, methane, methanol) production, to be employed in power plants and other applications. The purpose of the unit "Industrial plants for energy" is to provide students with a detailed knowledge of the operating principles and system lay-out of power plants for energy conversion, such as gas turbine systems, steam power plant and combined cycles. Moreover, the course will give the basis for the plant performances calculation, system behaviour understanding and plant management knowledge, with particular regard to the current national and international energy scenario. PREREQUISITES There are no specific requirements.
