AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is the systematic study of the French language at the phonological, syntactic, and lexical levels. It also seeks to develop students' oral and written skills, with particular attention given to the language of the political, economic, and legal fields. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES TRAINING OBJECTIVES The course has the following training objectives 1. To develop knowledge of the French language in its phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical dimensions. 2. To develop the student's written and oral skills. 3. To introduce the main concepts of discourse analysis. 4. To introduce the main debates in France on current issues (gender and migration). LEARNING OUTCOMES The course offers the possibility of 6 or 12 CFUs corresponding to 36 and 72 hours of lectures. For the 12 CFU option, it is recommended to contact the responsible of the teaching in order to define a content integration. At the end of the course, students will be able to follow a complex argument in a clearly articulated discourse related to the field of interest. They will be able to distinguish main topics from secondary topics, and to distinguish the point of view expressed from the facts being reported. Students will be able to read texts related to the field of interest largely independently. They will have acquired a broad vocabulary in the production of texts of a register consistent with the field of interest. PREREQUISITES Students enrolled in the course must have a language proficiency level corresponding to level B1 of the CEFR. Those who do not have this level may, during the first year of the course, ask the instructor for permission to follow as an auditor the lectureship for three-year degrees (which require, for the languages mentioned, the attainment of level B1) as well as the access codes to the language self-study courses available at the following address https://clire.aulaweb.unige.it/ TEACHING METHODS Lessons are given in the presential mode. Attendance is strongly recommended. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Theoretical module (Cennamo) The syllabus may be subject to modification with possible insights into current events in the French-speaking area; in any case, each topic will be presented through ad-hoc teaching material, which will be uploaded on Aulaweb. The theory module will focus on institutional speeches and/or speeches delivered by institutional figures from the French-speaking area. The bodies of work will concern various thematic axes. Various types of speeches will be analysed ( official speeches, posts on social networks, campaign posters, videos, etc.). The theoretical module will provide students with basic elements of discourse analysis that will help them identify the main discursive, rhetorical and argumentative strategies used in political argumentation. Language exercise classes (Ozza) Development of B2-level skills through morphosyntactic, lexical, textual exercises. Oral examination. It is necessary to pass the written test to gain access to the oral test. The oral test will focus on the ability to explain and discuss the contents proposed in class.
