The seminars will be held in Spanish and will have a total duration of 12 hours. Attendance for 6 hours allows students to acquire 1 CFU/ECTS credit; attendance for the full 12-hour cycle allows students to acquire 2 CFU/ECTS credits. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The seminar series aims to provide students with tools to understand the role of religious institutions in Mediterranean countries and to analyze, from a legal perspective, the relationship between religious freedom, denominational pluralism, and institutional organization. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The seminar series aims to: 1. Analyze religious institutions in Mediterranean countries – Explore how religious institutions operate within Mediterranean legal systems and interact with public authorities. 2. Examine models of relations between states and religious denominations – Study the different legal frameworks governing the recognition, autonomy, and activities of religious communities. 3. Consider religious and cultural pluralism – Assess the challenges raised by the presence of different religious traditions in the Mediterranean public sphere. 4. Understand legal and social transformations – Reflect on the impact of migration, territorial transformations, and social change on religious institutions. 5. Develop comparative and critical skills – Provide tools for comparing different legal experiences and critically interpreting current cases and issues. Through dialogue with speakers, students will acquire skills useful for understanding the religious phenomenon in contemporary legal systems and for assessing the relationships between religious institutions, society, and fundamental rights. Literacy skills: Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking, adapting communication to the context and using various sources and aids. Social skills: Ability to manage social interactions, adopt a collaborative attitude, and communicate constructively in diverse environments. PREREQUISITES There are no specific prerequisites required. TEACHING METHODS The seminar series includes seminars, held in person or according to the methods indicated by the Department, for a total of 12 hours. The seminars will be held in Spanish. Attendance will be recorded according to the methods communicated at the beginning of the activities. Students attending at least 6 hours will be awarded 1 CFU/ECTS credit; students attending the full 12-hour cycle will be awarded 2 CFU/ECTS credits. Teaching Methodology Thematic seminars in Spanish Analysis of legal cases and models concerning religious institutions Guided debate and discussion with scholars and experts SYLLABUS/CONTENT The seminar series, entitled “Instituciones religiosas en los países Mediterráneos”, will focus on the following thematic areas: Religious institutions and constitutional frameworks in Mediterranean countries Models of relations between public authorities and religious denominations Religious freedom, pluralism, and citizenship Religious bodies and organizations: recognition, autonomy, and activities of general interest Social transformations, migration, and new forms of religious presence in the public sphere RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY No documents are required for consultation, as any materials useful for drafting the report required to obtain the CFU/ECTS credits will be distributed during the seminars. To obtain the CFU/ECTS credits, students must attend the required hours and write a short report on the content of the seminars, to be sent to the instructor at daniela.tarantino@unige.it. Attendance for 6 hours allows students to acquire 1 CFU/ECTS credit; attendance for the full 12-hour cycle allows students to acquire 2 CFU/ECTS credits. ASSESSMENT METHODS Assessment consists of verifying attendance and evaluating the short report on the content of the seminars, to be sent to daniela.tarantino@unige.it. The report is intended to assess the student's acquisition of knowledge and skills relating to the analysis of religious institutions in Mediterranean countries and of the relationships between state legal systems and religious denominations.
