Information updated until 30/06/2026 CODE 94695 ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/2027 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 2 PSICOLOGIA 11892 (LM-51 R) - GENOVA 6 cfu anno 2 AMMINISTRAZIONE E POLITICHE PUBBLICHE 11903 (LM-63 R) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR SPS/09 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester OVERVIEW This course is designed to provide students with the concepts to form the ability to analyze the contemporary inequalities issues and to understand the relationship between social policy and social inequalities AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course proposes to introduce the main theoretical concepts and the main research topics concerning social inequalities and contemporary social protection systems. The primary objective is to offer students of psychology the necessary tools to understand the social and institutional context in which they will find themselves working. Specifically, the course will be divided into two specific parts. 1. The first part will focus on the analysis of the main transformations involving contemporary societies. In particular, we will study demographic, job and family-related transformations and ways of living together. 2. The second part will focus instead on the analysis of the concepts and dynamics that define the architecture of modern welfare state systems, developing the specificities and criticalities of the Italian case. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course focuses on historical, economic, political and social conditions, that affect the relation between social inequalities and welfare state. One of the primary aims is to offer the tools needed to understand the social and institutional context in which it will operate. The course will be organized in two specific areas. 1 The analysis of the main changes that characterize the contemporary societies. In particular the changes linked to: the demographics transformations, the job transformations, and the family and cohabitation transformations. 2. The analysis of the concepts and dynamics that define the architecture of the modern welfare state, in particular by developing the specificity and criticality of the Italian case.
