OVERVIEW

The teaching unit will present an overview of economic policy issues and the corresponding
strategies emerging in the current phase of the national and international
economy.

The students are kindly requested to register in the section "annunci" of the AlaWeb page of the course, so that they will automatically receive by mail any communication concerning the course.

The section "Annunci" of the AuaWeb page of the course will contain additional teaching material that may be included in extra exam questions that will grant extra points, so that the final mark will be given by the 30 points for the conventioanl questions plus 3-4 points given by "bonus" extra questions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at providing the students with a basic knowledge of the targets, strategies instruments and effects of monetary and fiscal policy, with respecto to the current international economic context.

The aims and expected learning outcomes are consistent with the "Dublin Descriptors": 
 
- Knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to describe and explain the foundations 
of Economic Policy (theoretical models and policy strategies) in relation to the current national 
and international context, using appropriate terminology. 
 
- Applying knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to apply the acquired 
knowledge from market analysis to the behaviour of economic operators and policy makers, 
by solving case studies or exercises proposed during lessons or exams. 
 
- Making judgements: Students will be able to autonomously evaluate the implications of 
economic policies for business activities, both at a conceptual and operational level, through 
the analysis of proposed economic scenarios. 
 
- Communication skills: Students will be able to communicate clearly and unambiguously, 
both in written and oral form, using the technical language of the discipline, with both 
specialist and non-specialist interlocutors, during presentations, discussions, or written tests.

- Learning skills: Students will be able to autonomously deepen their knowledge of economic 
literature and actively use available sources and tools to update their competences, also in 
professional contexts.

PREREQUISITES

A basic knowledge of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics is recommended.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures by the teacher and thematic in-depth seminars. Classroom debates with possible
attribution of "bonus points" valid for the final exam result. Attendance is not compulsory, but
strongly recommended.

Students with disabilities, SLD or SEN

Students with disabilities, with SLD or with SEN are reminded that, to request exam accommodations, they must first upload their certification to the University website at servizionline.unige.it<https://servizionline.unige.it/>, in the “Students” section. The documentation will be checked by the University’s Services for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities and with SLD.

At the beginning of the course, students are advised to contact the lecturer to agree on exam arrangements which, while respecting the learning objectives of the course, take individual learning needs into account.

Requests from students will be assessed by the lecturer and may be approved or rejected.

educational needs should contact, at the beginning of the lessons, both the instructor and the
Department’s disability liaison, Prof.ssa Elena Lagomarsino (elena.lagomarsino@unige.it), to agree
on teaching and exam arrangements that, while respecting the objectives of the teaching unit,
take into account individual learning methods and allow the use of any compensatory tools.

3) The welfare stare.
4) Models for economic policy.
5) Fiscal policy.
6) Monetary policy.
7) Inflation and anti-inflationary policies.
8) Balance of payments and exchange rates. 
9) Growth, development policies and the European Union economic policies.

edizione 2026, 4, 6, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 23, 25, 26. 

The section "Annunci" will contain additional teaching material that may be included in extra exam questions that will grant extra points, so that the final mark will be given by the 30 points for the conventioanl questions plus 3-4 points given by "bonus" extra questions. 

Obviously, the students who were supposed to give the exam in previous academic years can give the exam on the basis of the textbook that was recommended in the academic year where they were supposed to give the exam.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Written exam consisting of open questions. No minimum thresholds are set for individual
parts. Different arrangements for Erasmus students or students with special needs will be
agreed with the instructor.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The competences and knowledge of the teaching unit are assessed, in the written exam,
through open theoretical questions referring to the methodologies and relevant topics covered
in the lectures and in the textbook. The evaluation criteria include: accuracy of answers,
clarity of exposition, appropriate use of terminology, ability for critical analysis and application
of knowledge of the different topics indicated in the syllabus. There are no restrictions on repeating the exam.
