This course introduces the fundamental laws of classical physics regarding mechanics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism. The concepts presented, further developed through simple exercises, underlie many phenomena that students in the Environmental and Natural Sciences course will encounter in subsequent years. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Teaching the basic principles of classical physics for what concerns Mechanics, Fluids, Thermodynamics, and Electromagnetism; develop the ability to apply these principles to the solution of simple practical problems. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, the student should be able to appropriately use the formalism necessary for the study and application of Physics (units of measurement, position vector, fundamental equations, etc.) and be able to solve simple practical problems using the basic principles and fundamental laws of Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Electromagnetism. PREREQUISITES Basic university level mathematics, compatible with what is covered during the first semester of the first year in the Elements of Mathematics course TEACHING METHODS Approximately 40 hours of theoretical lessons + approximately 20 hours of exercises and practical examples. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY The notes taken by students during lectures and exercises are to be considered the primary reference for the course. Students are however strongly encouraged to use any university-level General Physics textbook as a reference. Examples of valid textbooks are: 1) James S. Passing the written exam makes the oral exam optional. A partial exam during the semester exempts students from taking half of the written exam.
