OVERVIEW

The course provides theoretical and practical elements for applying adapted physical activity to the primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of chronic degenerative diseases, with particular reference to developmental age.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The educational objective of the teaching is to deepen the knowledge on the epidemiology of the main childhood diseases, through an analysis of the social impact of the main developmental pathologies and their social relevance in terms of prevention.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Knowing the epidemiology of the risk factors for the most frequent chronic degenerative diseases in developmental age;
  • Knowing the environmental and behavioural factors that determine these risk factors;
  • Critical analysis of tertiary prevention interventions in developmental age;
  • Functional mechanisms exploited by physical activity in developmental age to prevent cardiovascular diseases and cancer;
  • Specificity of tertiary prevention intervention by physical activity in developmental age.

PREREQUISITES

Knowledge of general hygiene acquired during the three-year degree course.

TEACHING METHODS

Frontal lessons.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Epidemiology of pediatric obesity in the world, in Europe, in Italy.

Epidemiology of overweight, obesity in developmental age.

Epidemiology of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes in developmental age; influence of physical activity.

Promoting physical activity in childhood for the prevention of chronic degenerative cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Pathogenic mechanisms and their modulation.
