AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The teaching aims to deepen the sporting gesture by analyzing all aspects of functional anatomy of the motor segments, finalizing the study to the analysis of the sporting gesture.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • interpret human movement through the principles of functional anatomy;
  • correlate anatomical structure with sports performance;
  • understand the anatomical mechanisms underlying sports injuries;
  • apply anatomical knowledge to the functional assessment of athletes;
  • use anatomical terminology correctly in sport and exercise science contexts.

Final Assignment

Anatomical and Functional Analysis of a Sport-Specific Movement

Students will prepare an anatomical and functional analysis of a sport-specific movement selected from their discipline of interest.

The assignment should include:

  • anatomical structures involved;
  • joints and planes of movement;
  • primary and secondary muscles involved;
  • biomechanical and functional aspects of execution;
  • potential injury risks and prevention strategies.

Discussion of a Functional Case Study

Students will be asked to discuss a functional case study, such as:

"Analyze the movement of [sport-specific gesture] from an anatomical and functional perspective."

Examples may include:

  • the squat;
  • sprint running;
  • vertical jump;
  • tennis serve;
  • soccer kick;
  • swimming stroke;
  • Olympic lift.

The discussion should integrate anatomical knowledge, movement analysis, functional biomechanics, and sport-specific performance considerations.

Problem based learning, flipped classroom.

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, should contact the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liaise and arrange the specific teaching methods so that the learning aims and outcomes may be met.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The examination will focus on the topics covered in the final paper and will aim to assess not only the achievement of an adequate level of basic knowledge, but also the acquisition of the ability to critically analyze the questions that will be posed.
