CODE 117534 ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/2027 CREDITS 3 cfu anno 1 SCIENZE E TECNICHE DELLO SPORT 11890 (LM-68 R) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MEDF-01/A LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 2° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: BIOLOGICAL AND BIOMECHANICAL ASPECTS OF SPORTS PERFORMANCE 2 TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW This course illustrates the theoretical bases of sports physiology and sports training methodology useful for an initial orientation in the various fields of professional intervention. Through alternating theoretical moments, general issues are presented that will be points of reference for future teaching characterising the Course. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The educational objective of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge regarding the effects of different training programs on the functional aspects of the athlete. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The Course aims to provide the knowledge necessary to plan training across the various stages of preparation, detailing physiological and metabolic responses based on the athletes' individual characteristics, the performance and physiological profile of the specific sport, and the environment in which the discipline is practiced. At the end of the course, students will have: To know the acute responses and physiological adaptations obtained from aerobic and anaerobic training. To be aware about to analyse and evaluate the physiological pattern in individual and team sports. To understand physiological and metabolic responses to altitude and aquatic training. To be able about how to structure annual and multi-year training programmes for master’s athletes. To know the physiology of ageing concerning aerobic, anaerobic and muscular capacities. PREREQUISITES Students must demonstrate that, during their three-year undergraduate program, they acquired knowledge of general physiology (cellular physiology, membrane and action potentials, mechanisms of intercellular communication/synapses), systems physiology (cardiovascular and respiratory systems), and neurophysiology (muscle contraction, development and control of muscle force), as well as basic knowledge of the endocrine system and biochemistry. TEACHING METHODS The course includes a subdivision of lessons as follows: frontal lessons with the aid of computer presentations and multimedia supports. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Introduction to the training of aerobic and anaerobic capacities: The basic principles of physiology in endurance sports. Application of various training means and methods to achieve improvements in physiological parameters. Physical activity at medium and high altitude: Basic principles of acute responses and adaptations induced by training in a hypobaric environment. Master athlete, training and performance at 40 years of age and beyond: Basic principles concerning respiratory, muscular and metabolic ageing physiology. Aquatic physical activity: swimming and breath-hold diving: Basic principles of acute responses and training-induced adaptations in a hyperbaric environment. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Slides. Class schedule The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The examination will be Written with open-ended questions. This teaching is part of the integrated course ‘Biological and biomechanical aspects of sports performance 2’. For this reason, the examination for this teaching module must be taken at the same time as the other 2 teaching modules on the same call date. The written examination will consist of three open-ended questions and will last 40 minutes. This part of the examination will be considered passed with a mark of 18/30. The examination of the integrated course will be considered passed if all three papers have achieved a mark of at least 18/30. The final mark for the integrated course will be derived from the weighted average of the three individual scores For cases with certification of DSA, disability or other special educational needs, the University's rules and regulations on disability and DSA apply (https://unige.it/disabilita-dsa/normativa). See also the "Other information section” of this syllabus. ASSESSMENT METHODS The written examination tests the acquisition of basic teaching knowledge. The questions will assess the ability to apply the acquired knowledge in both methodological and physiological areas. You must be able to link and integrate the knowledge acquired in the lectures with the knowledge acquired through individual study. The written (open) examination will focus mainly on the topics covered in the lectures and will aim to assess not only the achievement of an adequate level of basic knowledge, but also the acquisition of the ability to critically analyse the questions posed during the examination. FURTHER INFORMATION Cases with a certified DSA, disability or other special educational needs are advised to contact both the Departmental contact person, Prof. Nicola Girtler, and the lecturer at the beginning of lessons in order to agree on teaching and examination methods that, while respecting the teaching objectives, take account of individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory/dispensatory tools recognised by the University DSA Service.
