OVERVIEW

The course explores the principles of healthy eating and sports nutrition, with particular reference to the adaptation of nutritional guidelines to different sports disciplines. The metabolic needs of athletes, pre- and post-exercise nutritional strategies and the risk of sports-related nutritional diseases are analyzed.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The educational objective of the course is to deepen the knowledge regarding the guidelines for healthy eating in high-level athletes and sportsmen.

Provide expertise on nutrition and nutrition in physiology and sport, highlighting food and nutrition pathologies that can become more frequent in the sporting environment.

Knowledge and understanding:

·        Know the guidelines for healthy eating and the updated LARN.

·        Understand the physiological bases of energy metabolism in sport.

·        Recognize the main nutritional alterations related to sports activity.

 

Application of knowledge:

Assess body composition and estimate 

·        energy and nutritional needs of athletes.

·        Know how to propose nutritional choices consistent with the specific needs of the various sports disciplines.

·        Identify behaviors at risk of ED in the sports field.

TEACHING METHODS

In-person lessons.

The course is divided into 16 hours of training activities, of which 12 hours of theoretical lectures and 4 hours dedicated to practical exercises with case analysis. The activities include discussions in small groups and collaborative work. Attendance is mandatory. Synchronous online teaching is guaranteed in the event of certified impediments or emergencies (e.g. weather alerts).

LARN and the GUIDELINES for correct nutrition and prevention of chronic degenerative diseases

Body composition: skinfold measurements and BIA bioenergetics of nutrients in exercise and training

Correct nutrition during sporting activities

Choice of nutrients, food supplements and energy drinks and ergogenic supports

Post-workout recovery: when and how to intervene with targeted nutrition

Role of targeted physical activity for weight loss

Sports and nutrition and eating disorders

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

At the end of the lessons, an optional ongoing test is carried out which consists of a multiple choice quiz lasting 30 minutes, 30 questions, 1 point per question. The grade obtained is averaged with the grade of the exam which consists of a paper with an open-ended question on the topics covered in class.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Learning assessment is done through a structured written test that includes multiple choice questions and an open question. The assessment aims to ascertain:

mastery of theoretical and applicative knowledge in the field of nutrition and sport;

the ability to critically analyze clinical-nutritional situations in athletes;

the correct use of specialist terminology.

The grade is expressed in thirtieths. The maximum grade (30/30 with honors) will be awarded in the case of excellent performance in all respects.
