OVERVIEW

The course explores the principles of medicine and surgery with a focus on palliative care, the management of frail patients and the ethical and relational aspects relevant to medical practice.

- Comprendere i bisogni del paziente con malattia avanzata.
- Riconoscere problematiche cliniche, etiche e comunicative.
- Collaborare con il team multidisciplinare.
- Adattare l’assistenza medica ai pazienti fragili.

- Understand the needs of patients with advanced disease.
- Recognize clinical, ethical and communication issues.
- Cooperate within the multidisciplinary team.
- Adapt medical care to frail patients.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures, case-based discussions and guided practical activities. Attendance follows Degree Course regulations.

1. Principles of palliative care medicine and surgery.

2. Definition and goals of palliative care.

3. Pain and symptom management.

4. Communication with the patient and family.

5. Ethical and legislative aspects.

6. Care of the patient undergoing palliative care.

7. Multidisciplinary approach and continuity of care.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Final written or oral examination, possibly integrated by a multiple-choice written test.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Students must demonstrate knowledge of palliative care principles, frail patient management and the role of the medical doctor in multidisciplinary care. Knowledge, integration skills and appropriate terminology will be evaluated.
