AIMS AND CONTENT

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Acquire the knowledge and skills to perform initial management maneuvers for cardiac arrest, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Recognize common clinical presentations and master the technical skills required for first aid in general practice.

TEACHING METHODS

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, shall reach out to the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liase and arrange the specific teaching methods and ensure proper achievement of the learning aims and outcomes.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

First aid for wounds, trauma, hemorrhages, and drowning
Recognizing and assessing chest pain and dyspnea, and administering first aid
Mountain rescue and hypothermia
Insect or snake bites
Recognizing and assessing altered states of consciousness (syncope and coma), and administering first aid

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Capacity to apply the acquired knowledge by choosing the right answer in a multiple choice questions

Students with SLD or other regularly certified special educational needs will be able to agree on written or oral modalities with the teacher, by contacting the teachers at least 10 days before the exam. They can also take advantage of 30% additional time.

When a student is a certified DSA, it is required to contact the Referring Teacher of the DISABILITY and DSA Commission for DINOGMI: Prof. N. Girtler (nicolagirtler@unige.it ) and evaluated the single case, he will send to the teachers the necessary directions both for  lessons development  and for modality of examination
